THRV Short Learning Programme celebrates community leadership and hope

Community leaders, practitioners and civil society organisation representatives from Gqeberha and Kariega recently celebrated the completion of the recent THRV Short Learning Programme.

 

The Hope Revolution Vision’s (THRV) Short Learning Programme on Community-Based Approach to Substance Abuse Prevention, is an initiative facilitated by Nelson Mandela University in partnership with community stakeholders.

The certification ceremony held on recently at the Missionvale Campus Conference Centre was officiated by Monga Peter of SANGOCO, who commended participants for their commitment to strengthening community-led responses to substance abuse and building partnerships for societal transformation.

Delivering the motivational address, Nupe Mosothane of the Rev Mcebisi Xundu Foundation challenged participants to anchor community renewal in love, hope and shared responsibility.

She encouraged all to help create conditions that enable young people to dream again, discover their purpose and become active contributors to rebuilding their communities.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Oscar Moss expressed appreciation to the University for creating opportunities for community members and civil society organisations to deepen their understanding of substance abuse prevention and recognise their learning through certification.

Civil society organisations were also alerted to strengthen collaboration through a culture of openness, trust and shared learning. The growing recognition of Kariega within University-community initiatives were recognised and that such partnerships are helping to expand opportunities for communities across the region.

The ceremony reaffirmed the shared commitment of the University and its community partners to building resilient, hopeful and connected communities through collaborative learning and action.
